Educators around the district will convene in Bethel this week for LKSD's Annual Fall Conference. The theme this year is Ayugenritut Uluat, or There are Different Kinds of Uluaqs. This event is a key learning opportunity for our teachers, administrators, and support staff that help ensure the best outcomes for every student in our schools. The focus this year is on literacy and implementing the new Reads Act, but there are sessions on bilingual teaching, arts, social-emotional learning and much more over the course of the conference.
The Yup'ik practice of learning includes careful listening, observation, and practice. This year's logo by local artist, John Oscar, is a striking depiction of the cultural understanding that different uluaqs are used at different stages of learning.
